U.S. Army Stg. Aaron Turner and U.S. Army Stg. Michael Boron
U.S. Army Sergeant Aaron Turner and Sergeant Michael Boron were awarded the Soldier's Medal—the military's highest peacetime honor for valor—after fearlessly taking down a rogue active shooter inside a Fort Stewart, Georgia battalion headquarters. When a gunman opened fire and wounded five people, Sgt. Turner ran toward the chaos, stood directly in the shooter's path, and tried to verbally talk him down. When the shooter pushed past him to continue the attack, Sgt. Boron blindsided the gunman from behind, yanking his hoodie over his eyes to completely blind him while pinning his shoulders. Turner immediately tackled the shooter, wrestled the handgun away from him, stripped the ammunition magazine, and cleared the live rounds from the weapon's chamber. The two heroes pinned the shooter to the ground until military police arrived, securing a literal "miracle" where not a single life was lost.
